Business Development Specialist

We are looking for a Business Development Specialist to join our team at Bluefors in Syracuse, NY. Your tasks will include developing and maintaining a pipeline of new business opportunities within emerging and underserved markets for our existing products. You will identify unmet market needs and collaborate with technical teams to recommend new products and go-to-market strategies before significant investments are made. You will analyze marketing and sales data, recommend pricing strategies and margin targets, and educate customers and internal stakeholders on product features, benefits, and competitive advantages. In addition, you will research and build partnerships with prospective customers, assist in coordinating marketing campaigns across print, digital, and social media, and support trade show planning and execution. You will also optimize our CRM system, maintain accurate sales forecasts, and perform additional duties as assigned.
We are looking for a candidate with a degree or certificate in business management, marketing, or a related field such as manufacturing, quality, technology, or process engineering, along with at least five years of business development experience in a growing manufacturing company. You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong critical thinking, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, along with sound business acumen and relationship-building skills. You should be proficient in Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and database software, and experience working with ERP systems is strongly preferred. A flexible, creative mindset and a proactive, “can-do” attitude are essential for success in this role.

Location: Syracuse, NY
Annual salary range: $80,000 – $115,000 annually, (DOE plus bonus)

Recommend pricing and margin strategies to support customer acquisition and market penetration
Educate internal and external customers on product features, benefits, and competitive advantages
Research and develop partnerships with new customers
Analyze marketing and sales data and provide recommendations
Assist in coordinating print, digital, and social media marketing campaigns
Support trade show planning, content development, and staff coordination
Optimize CRM usage and follow established company practices
Build and report accurate sales forecasts within established timelines
Perform additional duties as assigned
What We Expect from You
Degree or certificate in business management, marketing, or a related field preferred
Minimum of five years of business development experience in a growing manufacturing company
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively
Advanced negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Strong business acumen and relationship management abilities
Critical thinking skills and the ability to evaluate alternative solutions
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database software, and CRM systems
Experience working with ERP systems strongly preferred

Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% of the time

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, and use hand and finger dexterity. The employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear. Occasionally, the employee may stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. This position requires travel up to 30% of the time to customer locations, industry events, and other Bluefors offices.
Work Environment
This role operates primarily in a professional office environment and interacts with internal and external customers in a professional and courteous manner while maintaining confidentiality as needed. Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, filing cabinets, and copiers are used regularly. The employee may occasionally work in a manufacturing environment, where exposure to moving mechanical parts, varying temperatures, airborne particles, and moderately loud noise may occur.
