We are looking for a CNC Operator II to join our second shift manufacturing team at Bluefors in Syracuse, NY. In this role, you will play a key part in producing precision components used in advanced cryogenic systems that enable breakthroughs in quantum technology, scientific research, and other high-performance applications. Your tasks will include operating computer numeric control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts that meet strict quality and production standards. You will set machine controls for speed, feed, coolant flow, and program inputs as required to maintain proper machining conditions. You will review work instructions, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining sequences and finished part requirements. In this role, you will measure, mark, and verify materials prior to and during machining, and perform inspections to ensure parts meet specifications. You will troubleshoot machine operations, detect malfunctions or tool wear, and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality output. You will also change cutting tools, assist with setup activities, monitor machine performance, and ensure all tooling, materials, and inventory usage is properly recorded. Additional responsibilities include maintaining clean and organized machines and work areas, supporting preventive maintenance, and completing ongoing training to support technical growth.
We are looking for a candidate with a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of CNC machining or manufacturing experience, or a one-year technical certificate with related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You should have the ability to set up and use precision measuring tools and read and interpret blueprints, with GD&T knowledge considered a plus. The ideal candidate will be able to read and understand G-code, follow detailed instructions, and work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting ability, and a commitment to producing quality parts are essential. You should be dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Pay range for 2nd shift: $24.32-27.70/hr. (DOE)
Main Responsibilities include the following:
Operate CNC machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts
Set machine controls for machining parameters including speed, feed, and coolant flow
Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and technical specifications
Measure, mark, and verify materials and parts using precision measuring tools
Perform in-process and final inspections to ensure quality standards are met
Troubleshoot machine issues and adjust controls to correct malfunctions or tool wear
Detect and replace worn or damaged cutting tools as needed
Assist with machine setups and changeovers based on instructions
Monitor and record tooling, raw materials, and supply usage
Maintain clean machines, tools, and organized work areas
Perform basic preventive maintenance and support machine reliability
Complete first-piece inspections as required
Follow safety procedures and maintain compliance with quality standards
Participate in ongoing training and skill development
Perform additional duties as assigned
What We Expect from You
High school diploma or GED required
1+ year CNC machining or manufacturing experience (or equivalent combination)
Technical certificate in machining or related field preferred
Ability to set up and use precision measuring tools
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Ability to understand and work with G-code programming
Familiarity with GD&T principles is a plus
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, reach with arms and hands, and use hand and finger dexterity. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
This role operates in a manufacturing environment and interacts primarily with internal customers in a professional, courteous, and cooperative manner. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as applicable. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and may occasionally be exposed to humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, heat, cold, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level is usually moderately loud.
