We are looking for a Welder to join our manufacturing team at Bluefors in Syracuse, NY. In this role, you will perform precision welding functions supporting both our Compressor Assembly and Machine Shop departments. You will primarily perform TIG welding, with approximately 95% of the work focused on TIG applications, helping produce high-quality components and assemblies used in advanced cryogenic systems. Your responsibilities will include performing helium-tight TIG welds on pressure vessels, subassemblies, final assemblies, fixtures, and other components. You will use specialized welding techniques developed through Bluefors training while working with a variety of welding materials, equipment, and fixtures. You will also assist with preparing and maintaining inventory of tubes, caps, work-in-process materials, and various subassemblies. In addition, you will use hand and power tools associated with welding, maintain welding equipment and work areas, complete required documentation, and ensure all work meets Bluefors quality and safety standards. You will receive ongoing technical training to further develop your welding skills and knowledge of Bluefors-specific processes.
We are looking for a candidate with a high school diploma or GED and at least one year of TIG welding experience, or a one-year certificate from a college or technical school with related TIG welding experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You should have a solid understanding of TIG welding procedures, practices, and techniques, along with the ability to safely operate welding-related hand and power tools. The ideal candidate will be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints, use common measuring instruments, and understand welding materials such as welding rods and tungsten types. You should be detail-oriented, dependable, safety-conscious, and committed to producing high-quality work.
We also appreciate candidates who demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, and a proactive approach to learning and problem-solving. Experience with pressure vessels, helium-tight welding, weld positioners, grinders, regulators, and other welding equipment will help you stand out. The ability to complete CE Certification and maintain accurate inventory and production records is highly valued. Pay Range: $21-25/hr. (DOE)
Main Responsibilities include the following:
Perform helium-tight TIG welds on pressure vessels, subassemblies, final assemblies, fixtures, and other components
Perform TIG and MIG welding, with approximately 95% of work focused on TIG welding
Apply specialized welding techniques developed through Bluefors training
Prepare and maintain inventory of tubes, caps, work-in-process materials, and subassemblies
Set up and safely operate welding equipment and associated tools
Use hand and power tools including angle grinders, bench grinders, and weld positioners
Properly connect and use welding hoses, cords, regulators, and related equipment
Read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints
Use measuring instruments to verify dimensions and quality
Maintain accurate production and inventory records
Clean and maintain work areas, tools, equipment, and parts
Follow all Bluefors quality and safety standards
Complete required CE Certification
Participate in ongoing welding and technical training
Perform additional duties as assigned
What We Expect from You
High school diploma or GED required
One year of TIG welding experience preferred

Knowledge of common welding supplies, including welding rods and tungsten types
Ability to use common measuring instruments such as tape measures, levels, and squares
Basic knowledge of inventory management procedures
Ability to complete CE Certification
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, reach with hands and arms, and use hands and fingers for detailed welding and fabrication tasks. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate verbally. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
This position operates in a manufacturing environment and regularly works around welding equipment, moving mechanical parts, tools, and production machinery. Employees may occasionally be exposed to welding fumes, airborne particles, heat, cold, humidity, vibration, electrical hazards, and moderately loud noise. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as applicable. Employees are expected to maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace and follow all Bluefors safety procedures and quality standards.
