We are looking for a Machinist to join our manufacturing team at Bluefors in Syracuse, NY. In this role, you will manufacture precision parts in low-production runs using manual machine tools. You will play an important role in producing high-quality components for advanced cryogenic systems while working in a hands-on, collaborative manufacturing environment. Your tasks will include setting up and operating manual machines to complete work orders while ensuring precision is maintained throughout each machining operation. You will inspect parts according to established procedures, perform first-piece quality inspections as verified by a supervisor or quality technician, and make or modify tooling when necessary. You will also use and qualify measuring tools, monitor and record tooling, supplies, and raw material usage, and notify appropriate personnel when materials are needed. In addition, you will clean machines, tooling, and finished parts, perform basic machine maintenance, complete ongoing technical training, and assist with training Manufacturing Associates as applicable.
We are looking for a candidate with a high school diploma and at least one year of machining experience, or a one-year certificate from a college or technical school with six months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You should have the ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, training documents, and work instructions. The ideal candidate will be able to set up and use measuring tools, read and understand blueprints, and follow written and verbal directions accurately. Familiarity with GD&T is a plus. Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, dependability, and a commitment to quality and safety are essential.

Location: Syracuse, NY
Pay Range: 20.48-25.28/hr. (DOE)
Main Responsibilities include the following:
Set up and operate manual machines to complete work orders
Manufacture precision parts in low-production runs
Maintain required precision and accuracy throughout all machining operations
Inspect parts according to established policies and procedures
Perform first-piece quality inspections as verified by a supervisor or quality technician
Make and/or modify tooling as necessary
Qualify and use measuring tools daily and as needed throughout the shift
Monitor and record tooling, supplies, and raw material inventory usage
Notify appropriate personnel when tooling, supplies, or raw materials need replenishment
Clean machines, tooling, and finished parts
Perform basic machine maintenance as required
Complete ongoing technical training requirements
Assist with training Manufacturing Associates as applicable
Maintain good housekeeping and a clean, organized workspace
Follow all Bluefors quality and safety standards
Perform additional duties as assigned
What We Expect from You
High school diploma or equivalent required
One year of machining experience preferred

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, reach with arms and hands, and use hands and fingers for detailed machining tasks. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
This role operates in a manufacturing environment and regularly works around manual machine tools, moving mechanical parts, and other production equipment. The employee may occasionally be exposed to humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, heat, cold, electrical hazards, vibration, and moderately loud noise. Mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required. Employees are expected to maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace and follow all Bluefors safety policies and procedures.
