Packaging & Crating Technician I

We are looking for a Packaging & Crating Technician I to join our Shipping team at Bluefors in Syracuse, NY. In this role, you will support the preparation, packaging, and crating of Bluefors products for shipment to customers around the world. Your responsibilities will include working with the Shipping Supervisor or Coordinator to prepare supplies needed for daily shipments, including boxes, crates, hand tools, and banding equipment. You will assemble wooden crates using basic hand tools, complete required shipping paperwork, communicate with truck drivers during product loading, and assist with managing shipping supplies to help prevent shortages. You will also assist other technicians as needed, use lifting equipment to position units onto pallets, and carefully follow work instructions to ensure labeling, documentation, and packaging requirements are completed accurately. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe Shipping area will also be an important part of the role.
We are looking for a candidate with a high school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. One to three months of related experience and/or training is preferred, and experience working in a Shipping department is highly valued. Experience working with an ERP system is also preferred. You should be able to read and follow safety rules, work instructions, procedures, manuals, and training documents. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, communication abilities, and the ability to work independently are important for success in this role. Basic computer skills and the ability to safely use material handling equipment such as forklifts, chain hoists, and hand trucks are also required.

Location: Syracuse, NY
Pay range: $22-25/hr. (DOE)
Main Responsibilities include the following:
• Work with the Shipping Supervisor or Coordinator to prepare supplies needed for daily shipments
• Prepare boxes, crates, hand tools, banding equipment, and other shipping materials
• Assemble wooden crates using basic hand tools
• Complete required shipping paperwork and return documentation to the appropriate coordinator
• Communicate professionally with truck drivers during product loading
• Assist with management and organization of shipping-related supplies
• Communicate supply needs to the Supervisor to help prevent shortages
• Assist other Packaging & Crating Technicians with tasks necessary to meet shipping requirements
• Use lifting equipment to safely position units onto pallets in preparation for shipment
• Follow work instructions to ensure proper labeling, documentation, and packaging procedures are completed accurately
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe Shipping area
• Perform additional duties as assigned
What We Expect from You

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, and use hand and finger dexterity. The employee may frequently be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
This position operates in a manufacturing and shipping environment and interacts primarily with internal customers in a professional, courteous, and cooperative manner. Mandatory personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and may occasionally encounter humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, heat, cold, electrical hazards, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may be moderately loud at times. Employees are expected to maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace and follow all applicable safety procedures.
