We’re seeking a hands-on, technically skilled and detail-oriented Engineering Technician – R&D to join our growing team. This position provides an exciting opportunity to work alongside engineers and plant leadership in the development of new cryogenic products and prototypes. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on technical work, troubleshooting, precision measurement and working collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing and R&D environment.
As an Engineering Technician – R&D, you will report to the Specialty Projects Manager while working with guidance from engineering and plant leadership. You will support the development, assembly, testing and troubleshooting of new cryogenic products and prototypes, while helping bridge the gap between engineering and production.

Location: Syracuse, NY
Pay range: $22-$38/hr. (DOE)
Main responsibilities include the following:
• Assemble, test and troubleshoot new cryogenic products and prototypes
• Set up and verify measurement equipment and various test beds
• Correspond with engineers to revise drawings and recommend assembly processes
• Work with Production to build prototypes and perform training during new product handoffs
• Review documentation of test results for assigned projects with engineers and suggest changes to improve system performance
• Report on progress, problems and solutions for assigned projects
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned
What we expect from you
• Associate degree in Engineering, Technology or a related field required; or certification from a trade school
• Minimum 10 years of applicable manufacturing experience required
• Minimum 2 years of TIG welding experience required
• Two years of cryogenic manufacturing, assembly, test or repair experience preferred
• Advanced ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Basic manual machining and precision measurement abilities
• Basic wiring and electrical assembly experience
• Advanced mathematical skills, including algebra, trigonometry and graphing
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong teamwork and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
• Ability to clearly present research findings and technical information
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, and have hand and finger dexterity. The employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. In an office setting, the employee may occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. In the manufacturing setting, the employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
This position operates in a manufacturing environment and interacts mostly with internal customers in a professional, courteous and cooperative manner. Mandatory PPE must be worn as required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, heat, cold, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
